On March 20, 2017, I got a chance to talk with Hazel Holman, founder of In the Image of Christ Ministry and discuss the ministry’s annual ALPI Energy Fair. They recently held an energy fair March 15th and 16th at their location on 707 N 7th street in Fort Pierce. It’s reported that the energy fair brings a big crowd of up to 600 people. Ms. Holman informed me that In the Image of Christ has a 12 month contract with ALPI to where residents of Saint Lucie County can try to get assistance with their light bill throughout the year. Also, Ms. Holman informed me that anyone who received assistance in the previous month could get assistance during the energy fair.
Kevin Singletary, who is a Family Coordinator for ALPI Early Headstart Program, stated that the light bill assistance program is through ALPI’s Liheap department and In the Image of Christ processes the applications. Liheap was designed to help low-income families pay their utilities. Liheap pays light bills and deposits for people moving into new homes and apartments. Their mandate is they want poor families to become self-suffiecent.
The next energy fair is scheduled for Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, March 24, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be held at Mustard Seed Ministries located on 8311 S. U.S. Highway 1, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34952
